Ashland University Football head coach Lee Owens stopped by the WRDL studios on Wednesday, Nov. 16, for his weekly interview on The Early Bird’s Word.  Coach Owens recapped the team’s 9-2 season.  After beating Ohio Dominican 34-21 this past weekend, the Eagles’ captured the GLIAC South Division championship.  The Eagles have won three South Division titles (2012, 2015, 2016) throughout the seven years of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference divisional play. The Eagles finish the year #16 in the final regular season AFCA coaches poll.  However, the Eagles failed to qualify for the NCAA Division II postseason.  Ashland is the only team in the latest Top 25 poll to not be selected for the 2016 D-II postseason, and is the highest-ranked team at the end of a regular season to not go to the playoffs since Humboldt State in 2011.  All of Lee Owens’ past interviews on The Early Bird’s Word can be heard the WRDL Soundcloud page.
