ASO announces 52nd season

The Ashland Symphony Orchestra returns to the stage for its 52nd season, “Reimagined”.

The season opens on Saturday, September 18, with “Welcome Back!” Conductor candidate Darwin
Aquino has programmed Fidelio: Overture by Beethoven; Violin Concerto, No.1, G minor by Max Bruch
with David Halen, violin; and El amor brujo by Manuel de Falla. This concert will also feature the world
premiere of Lunga Pandemia by Darwin Aquino. Halen is the Concertmaster of the Saint Louis
Symphony.

“Timeless”, Saturday, October 30, will feature Cleveland Orchestra’s Principal Cellist Mark Kosower
playing Luigi Boccherini’s Violoncello Concerto in D major. Conductor candidate Yaniv Segal has also
programmed Transcendental Variations by George Rochberg and Segal’s own arrangement of
Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.

The annual Family Holiday Pops takes place on Sunday, November 28. Enjoy the warmth of the season
with traditional carols and holiday favorites. Guest conductor to be announced.

Conductor candidate Michael Repper takes the podium on Saturday, January 22 with “Champs-Élysées
to Broadway”. His program includes Symphony No. 83, G minor (The Hen) by Haydn and Joan Tower’s
Made in America. Repper will conduct from the piano as he is accompanied by the orchestra for
Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin, arranged by Iain Farrington.

Raphael Jiménez returns to Ashland as a finalist in the ASO’s conductor search with “Impressions” on
Saturday, March 12. His program includes Quiet City by Aaron Copland, Impressions by Clarice Assad,
and Symphony No.5, B-flat major by Schubert.

The season concludes with “Structured Storms: Classical Chaos” with conductor candidate Isaac Selya,
Saturday, April 23. This concert features classical composers Mendelssohn, The Hebrides: Overture;
Tchaikovsky, Symphony No. 25, C major; and Mozart, Symphony No.25, G minor.

New for the 2021-2022 season are matinee performances at 3:00 p.m. as well as 7:30 evening concerts.
Season subscriptions are now on sale for $120 adult, $105 senior, and $24 child/student. Season
samplers (your choice of three concerts) are also available for $60 adult, $54 senior, and $15
child/student. Individual concert tickets will go on sale at least 30 days prior to each concert. The ASO
